The Caspian Divide was formed by a series of massive, violent earthquakes. The first quake hit the southern coast of Iran on 9 January 2050 and was quickly followed by a second and third quake just one day later. The aftershocks continued for several days, until finally a fourth quake opened a chasm from the Caspian Sea which forked before reaching The Gulf of Oman (4.5.1).
